Saint Nymphadota was a third-century ascetic from Leptis Magna who the twelve churches in Chicago named for Saint Floradora were renamed to honor after 1959 (Saint Fidgeta and Other Parodies, 83).

A nymph can be a minor female deity or a young girl that inspires lustful feelings.  If anything, Bellairs is indulging himself with a root word also seen in nymphomaniac (a woman with excessive sexual desire)[1].
