Harlem is is mentioned in the notes found in the desk of a New York advertising executive as a possible repeat visit for the returning pope (Saint Fidgeta and Other Parodies; 28).
Inspiration
Harlem is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan, which since the 1920s has been a major African-American residential, cultural, and business center[1].
When Paul VI visited the United States in 1965, his motorcade made an unscheduled stop at Rice High School, a private, Roman Catholic high school in Harlem[2]. On October 4 he issued a message to the students, asking God to grant them "the graces you need to be good students, loyal companions, obedient children and, later on, exemplary citizens of your great country.[3]"
