The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth members.  Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been at some point members of the BSA.  This includes John Bellairs, who was briefly a member in the early 1950s and met many lifelong friends through the organization[1].
